Affordable Clarisonic Alternative

konjacspongesI’m going to share a funny story with you. My husband and I moved into our new house we built about 4 months ago. One night, in the first week, I woke him up at 4 a.m., startled by a buzzing noise. I followed said noise to the bathroom where all I could detect was that it was coming from the outlet in the wall. I started researching electrical fires on Google of course and made my husband remove the face plate, convinced there were wires burning up in there. We found nothing. We even had an electrician come the next day and he said there was no malfunction that could be seen. Around this same time, my Clarisonic Mia had been “ghosting,” meaning that it would randomly turn itself on. I noticed it buzzing in the drawer one day all on it’s own and then it hit me. Our electrical systems are fine. My Clarisonic is a demon! So it’s basically been shorting itself out for the past 2 months. It’s on it’s last leg I know and after 4+ strong years, it’s time. It has given me so much. Clari, I shall miss thee. Funeral details are forthcoming.

All that being said, not really ready to fork over $100+ for a new Clarisonic, and also curious about using more chemical/gentle exfoliation methods, I’ve been using alternate methods to clean my face. I really enjoyed the Dr. Sponge konjac sponges way back when so when I saw EcoTools had released their own at just $6 each, I scarfed. ecotoolsspongesFor the past 2 months, I’ve just been using the EcoTools Pure Complexion Facial Sponge, alternating with my Root Fresh Face cleanser and Trader Joes one and I want to say, my skin has actually looked better for it. I suspect that the more gentle cleansing method has perhaps reduced redness and inflammation. The sponge still exfoliates but so softly that you don’t even notice. Keep in mind, I am definitely not saying the Clarisonic is bad for your skin. I loved using it and I might get another someday but I do think a konjac sponge and gentle cleanser are an excellent, budget friendly alternative! I love that the EcoTools sponges can be picked up at Target and Walgreen’s which is really convenient for me, vs. having to order the replacement heads for the Clarisonic or making a trip to Sephora or Ulta. For more information on what exactly konjac sponges are, this post will tell you more.

I love my clarisonic but I’ve stopped using it recently because it was making my skin red and slightly inflammed. I’ve been using my hands now, but maybe I’ll give these konjac sponges a try 🙂
