Natural Deodorant That Works

Hey, let’s talk about my stinky armpits! I’ve never been real lady-like in this area. I sweat a lot and it doesn’t smell like ocean breezes when I do. I remember using Degree extra strength deodorant in high school and still worrying about what I smelled like. I later switched to Dove, which I liked and did work, but have recently begun to worry about what’s in it. Not only does Dove test on animals, which is a huge no for me now, but contains potentially sketch ingredients like aluminum, mineral oil and other weird things. I set out to find a natural deodorant that actually works and I may have just found the one, or two. Read on!

Tom’s of Maine  Long Lasting Deodorant, Wild Lavender I’ll just skip to the chase and tell you that it should be called Tom’s “doesn’t work for sh*t” of Maine. It applies very wet and stays that way. While the scent is ok, not the most pleasant lavender I’ve smelled, it simply did not work. At all.

Vermont Soap Lemongrass Zen Organic Deodorant I would give this the second place award. It works well, applies smoothly, there is a generous amount of product in the tube and the scent reminds me of a tea I used to drink. I also tried their Spicewood scent which is basically a strong cinnamon aroma and it works well too. I don’t enjoy the scent as much though. For $10, I think this is a great, organic deodorant.

Clean Living Collection Deodorant & Antiperspirant, Jasmine Lavender This takes the crown! It may not apply quite as smoothly as some of the others I tried but it actually works. It kept me stink-free and dry and caused no irritation. The scent is really nice and the price of $8.00 for full size or $3.00 for the size shown here cannot be beat. I like that you can order any scent in an extra strength formula too. I just placed my order!
UPDATE: After using this and loving it, my armpits started to peel. And then they peeled more. Before I knew it, it looked like I had athlete’s foot in my arm-disgusting, I know! I read that this happens to those sensitive with baking soda so I will seek out a baking soda-free formula.

Alba Botanica Clear Enzyme Deodorant Stick, Tea Tree While I liked the consistency of this one, and the scent is fresh, it left me with red, irritated armpits. I’ve not had issues with tea tree oil previously so I’m not sure what the hell was going on. An Instagram follower commented that she also experienced a chemical burn with this one! I don’t care if it works, my armpits were freaking en fuego. Hard no.

Herban Cowboy Maximum Protection Deodorant-Forest I picked this up at Whole Foods on my brother’s recommendation. I opted for the men’s version as I didn’t like the women’s scents. Plus, I sweat like a man. I really like the scent and feel. I would say it’s tied for 2nd place, maybe 3rd based on a 96 degree day I recently tested it. It doesn’t keep me smelling fresh for 8 hours, but it wasn’t a fail either.

Lavanila The Healthy Deodorant, Vanilla I enjoyed their fragrances when I worked at Sephora and hoped the deodorant would be the same. It was the first natural deodorant I tried and not a winner for me. I didn’t enjoy the scent and it didn’t work. I actually noticed it developed into an even stranger scent throughout the day.

Crystal Natural Deodorant Stick This works great for my mom but not so much for me. She’s used it my entire life and though I’d love for something so simple and unscented to do the trick, sadly, it does not.

dōTERRA Natural Deodorant Stick While I like the scent and feel of this, it was another dud. It just didn’t keep me from getting stinky. Bummed because I was rooting for it. It only lasts for a few hours I’d say.

Schmidt’s Natural Deodorant Bergamot & Lime I know some people who rave about this and sadly, I won’t be one of them. I didn’t enjoy the paste texture, which I could overlook if it worked well, which it didn’t.

In summary, I’ve yet to find the natural deodorant that truly works without irritating. What others should I try?
