Paula’s Choice Skincare Review

Choosing the right products for your skincare routine is much like walking into a shoe store. There are tons of choices, different shoes for different purposes and events. Some shoes are your basic, everyday work staples, but others are your lust-worthy, impractical stilettos, reserved only for the fiercest of nights out.

With the skincare market just as full of choices as DSW, we need someone to show us the way. We don’t all have time to pore though ingredient lists and reviews so someone like Paula Begoun who has already done all the research and fact checking? Heaven-sent! Thanks girl!

Paula is the author of Don’t Go To The Cosmetics Counter Without Me and founder of beautypedia.com. If you want unbiased, no-BS reviews, that’s your site. It’s the only one that actually reviews based on ingredients. Paula became skeptical of the skincare industry when at age 11, she was struggling with acne and not a damn thing was working. Once she started really looking into what was in the products we are told will cure our troubles, she knew why. Paula developed her own line of skincare products, , using only ingredients that are proven to work. Her line is fragrance-free, cruelty-free and made in America. Get it girl, GET. IT.

There are sets and products catering to literally every type of skin. I had a call with where I told them all of my concerns-very dry skin, aging, some post-blemish marks, sunspots and some melasma and blackheads on my nose and cheeks. I’m a ball of fun, aren’t I? Based on everything I shared with them, here is what they sent and some thoughts on them. Make sure you watch my video review for the most in-depth information.

Skin Recovery Softening Cream Cleanser, $17 Most gentle cleanser I’ve ever used and I love that you can use it on eye makeup too!

Skin Recovery Toner, $20 I wasn’t currently using a toner and was hesitant to add an extra step. This reminds me of Shiseido’s softener and really calmed and soothed.

Skin Perfecting 8% AHA Gel, $26 This is a chemical exfoliant. I didn’t notice a ton of results with this one but like the idea of it.

Skin Recovery Antioxidant Serum with Retinol, $30 I’d describe the texture as an oil/gel and I loved that above it. I’ve now found a retinol serum I can use during the day! Yay!

Skin Recovery Lotion with SPF 30, $26 This is the perfect daily moisturizer that hydrates and gives sun protection without feeling sticky! It wears great under makeup.

Skin Recovery Moisturizer, $26 I love me a good, thick night cream and this is it. It moisturizes completely, leaving nothing to be desired. If your skin is so dry it hurts-you need dis.

Skin Recovery Mask, $21 This is a soothing mask that you can wear as a sleeping mask too! It feels luxurious!

Extras

Clinical 1% Retinol, $55 This has often been described as one of the best OTC retinol out there. It’s potent enough to see real results and non-irritating-win-win! If you follow Wayne Goss on Instagram, you might have seen him rave about this product, stating that he’s gone through 8 bottles!

Resist Dark Spot Eraser 2% BHA, $25 If you have dark spots, the only way to fade them is with hydroquinone. This product has that and salicylic acid to also help with breakouts, perfect for existing and previous spots!

Resist BHA 9 Treatment, $40 Like an idiot, I forgot to mention this in the video but this is a leave-on spot treatment that really works! Even though it has a thin, oil-like consistency, it really shrunk blemishes overnight! It comes out really fast though, so just be careful!!

The Nude Mattes Eyeshadow Palette, $40
This palette deserves it’s own dedicated post because it blew me away. Excellent pigment, zero fallout, perfect color selections. It’s no wonder they collaborated with Wayne Goss on this because it’s makeup artist approved! Let me know if you want to see a tutorial and dedicated review because it’s limited edition, y’all!

I have the Resist Dark Spot Eraser and I really like it! I’ve been using it for a couple weeks now, and I think my spots are fading, so I’m feeling pretty hopeful 🙂 I also have the Skin Perfecting 2% Liquid Exfoliant, and it’s really helped clear my blackheads on my nose!

I’m in love with this line. The Resist Dark Spot eraser works when nothing else does! The Clinical Retinol is amazing – no irritation and my skin looks more radiant and supple!
