Thrive Causemetics Liquid Lash Extensions Mascara Review

I am encouraged by what Thrive Causemetics is doing so I was excited to see them unveil their Liquid Lash Extensions Mascara. I knew I had to try it out and give you the scoop!

People seem to be as divided about mascara as they are about politics. There have been mascaras that I have absolutely hated that others profess their undying love to. It’s really a matter of your end goal and what you’re starting with. For example, I have a decent amount of lashes, so I don’t look for volume but length and separation. I am super adamant about separation, almost more than anything.

Read on to find out if the Thrive Causemetics Liquid Lash Extensions Mascara gave me all of that and more.PACKAGING

The first thing I noticed about the Liquid Lash Extensions Mascara was the hefty tube. It has a very substantial feeling in your hands, almost as though it’s made of metal? I like how it feels. It has a little more product in it than some mascaras so perhaps that is why. The brush is plastic and looked as though it would lend itself well to the feathery, separated lashes I’m after. Just a note: this brush style tends to work best on those with a decent amount of lashes but if you have short stubby lashes, sometimes they can dump too much product on them.

INGREDIENTS

Now, let’s take a closer look at the ingredient list. There are a few key things in the Liquid Lash Extensions Mascara that encourage lash health and growth like castor oil, panthenol and sodium hyaluronate. It also contains shea butter and an orchid stem cell complex meant to stimulate lash growth too. I was surprised to see it contained caranuba wax as it behaves like a tubing mascara in my opinion.

Tubing mascaras forego traditional waxes in place of a polymer. The Liquid Lash Extensions Mascara does contain a polymer as well so this appears to be a bit of a hybrid formula. Though Thrive Causemetics describes Liquid Lash Extensions as a fiber mascara, I cannot detect any visible in the formula. I would classify it as a tubing mascara, even if they do not, as it wears and removes like one. More on that to come.

RESULTS

Here is my eye one coat of the Liquid Lash Extensions applied. As you can see, it’s a nice, rich black, adds length and volume but with one problem. The separation ain’t happenin’. Several lashes are clumped together and that really bothered me. If you don’t have a ton of lashes to begin with, perhaps the lack of separation won’t bother you as much. It was the main reason I don’t love this mascara though.

WEAR

As far as wear time goes, I was very impressed. I didn’t experience any flaking or smudging and it even withstood some tears without a single streak. True to tubing mascara formulas, it slides off in pieces with just water. I honestly think that is my favorite thing about it. It’s so fun to stand in the shower and pull off clumps of mascara. If this mascara had better separation, I would like it a lot. I suspect that the short-bristled plastic brush is depositing too much product onto the lashes and the bristles aren’t long enough to effectively comb it through.

DO I RECOMMEND THRIVE CAUSEMETICS MASCARA?

No. I wanted to love this mascara but due to the overly-thick lashes it creates, I can’t say I do. I do like it and I will wear it on days that I don’t mind fatty lashes, but it won’t be a go-to fave necessarily.

If you have oily eyelids, watery eyes or just find that mascara runs and smudges on you easily, tubing mascaras like this one may be your friend.

Though it does contain some wax, it contains more polymers which form around each individual lash and unlike waxes and oils, don’t melt down. If you don’t mind a little clump n’ dump, the Thrive Causemetics Liquid Lash Extensions might be worth trying!

I agree! I bought it recently and it did not impress me. I bought a waterproof covergirl mascara not long ago for less than $4 at TJ Maxx and it’s better than this stuff. The lengthening fibers don’t do anything.

I was more than disappointed in the mascara. The over the counter mascaras such as l’Oreal and Maybelline much better product. They lengthen and thicken lashes. The thrive does not do either. Both were less than half the price of Thrive.

Maybelline gives way better results. False advertising at its worst! Asked friends to try it. They all hated the product!

Hi Loan! I know waterproof mascara does hold curl better than traditional. That being said, this is not described as a waterproof mascara. Most waterproof mascaras contain wax polymers and while this has caranuba wax, I can’t say whether that would be enough to hold curl.

I am also asian with eyelashes that straighten when I put on regular mascara. I’ve found that it happens with mascara with water as its first ingredient. It doesn’t matter it is high or low priced ones. Make sure you read the ingredients and avoid the ones that list water first.

Hi. I too have fairly thick lashes and don’t like when mascara clumps them together. I’ve found that if I wipe the wand free of some (often most) of the product, I get a cleaner application. Thought I’d mention it in case you want to try it. It does feel wasteful, because I lose much of the mascara on the paper towel or tissue that I wipe the wand with, but my lashes always end up looking well separated and more natural when I do.

I’ve had the worse trouble with flaking. It flakes and falls on my face and then my lashes are bare. Maybe I need to wipe the wand each time. At this point I’m not very impressed.

Thank you for your blog! I read your thoughts before I received my mascara and I thought maybe I’d have a better experience. I tend to wipe off much of the mascara before applying it and I had hoped that would circumvent the lack of separation. Nope. This mascara was a huge disappointment. It didn’t lengthen any better than less expensive, store bought mascara and the lack of separation makes it look clumpy.

The long-wearing lipstick does not work. And to charge almost $30 (includes shipping costs) is really getting up there with a false advertising claim. This lipstick does NOT last all day (it will be gone the minute you eat or drink) and it does not moisturize your lips–in fact it’s very drying. You will be much better off purchasing the long-wearing lipstick from L’Oreal, Maybelline, Cover Girl, etc. and for a LOT less money.

I guess because their marketing does a thing with “every purchase gives one equal product to a needy woman…” and calling it “causemetics” is supposed to make us not care about the truth in their descriptions…but at $30? I’d rather donate to the charity of my choice.

I am not sure how these causemetics get good reviews. I purchased the Liquid Lash Extensions Mascara and the eye liner.
The mascara clumped and flaked. Yes it did! The eye liner smeared off in about a half hour after applying. I tried them twice to be sure maybe somehow I was not applying correctly.
Both time it did this. I had black flecks on my face all day from the mascara. Since the eyeliner did not even stay on, I used something else I had.
I read all the raving reviews and thought, this stuff must be good (expensive too).
In may case, it was not — I hated it and I returned it.

I cannot believe the terrific reviews for this brand. But now I understand the company’s tactic. They remove any negative feedback you leave and then block you from their Facebook page! I bought the mascara and eyeliner and was not impressed with either one. Complete lie about lengthening lashes and it clumps up for sure. The eyeliner melted off by end of day. The products are the complete opposite of what they say. Awful.

    Hi Ivy!
I was googling reviews of the Thrive mascara & came upon your blog. I’ll DEFENETLY be reading from now, you’ve got a new fan in me!
I’m a mascara junkie as well, as I have light blonde lashes. I look like I have the flu without mascara.
Question for you, in your Thrive mascara review I noticed your bottom lashes in the FABULOUS close up photos. I have tried, tried & tried again to get mascara on my bottom lashes EXACTLY the way you have done in your photos. I’m very pale & I would love the extra definition. Do you have any secrets to applying mascara on bottom lashes??! I end up with a kewpie doll, clumpy lash look with the side benefit of smearing under my eye. 😡. I’ve tried the trick of holding something, like a business card between my bottom lashes & under eye. I still get a clumpy, not natural looking MESS. Any ideas are greatly appreciated! Sorry for the CRAZY long comment. 😧

I have very, very thin, almost non-existent eye lashes, and I love this product! It is more expensive than than I’d like to spend (I always buy drug store cosmetics), but I feel the price is well worth it, and I am money conscious. I am ordering my 2nd tube today. It doesn’t smear, like someone said, it doesn’t rub off or end up underneath your eyes. It really is a very good product and makes my lashes look much thicker and longer.

I have this mascara and I honestly do love the way it stays on my eye without smudging under neath my eye. My issue and was wondering if there’s anyone else out their with this experience. After using the mascara for a few weeks I noticed both my eye sockets were aching and my eyes were tremendously sore (burning). I stopped using the mascara and then recently went back to it and the same thing happened again. My thoughts obviously are it’s something in the mascara but I don’t know what.
Just wondering am I the only one with this experience? Thanks for your input in advance.

I seem to be allergic to the mascara or Cc Cream. I just bought these products and I now have a sunburn like rash under my eyes and under my eyes are very swollen. I first thought it was the CC cream but if that was the issue wouldn’t my entire face be reacting to the product? So now I think it is the mascara. My eyes have been swollen for 2 days and I look like I have been crying. This is horrible.

My lashes were longer than my usual mascara (Too Faced brand) about the same price as this Thrive. I didn’t check to see if this was waterproof and found out it wasn’t when I went swimming… it clumped up in pieces and was all over my face when I got out. My husband and my niece was looking at me like “What happened?” So in the future, if you are going to go in the water or go on water rides, make sure you’re not wearing this brand.

I have tried a multitude of both drug store and high end beauty products but this is by far the best mascara that I have personally used.
I used it for the first time the other evening while at the casino, with my husband and son, and received compliments from early in the evening until early in the morning. Usually by then everything has worn off.

Worked well for me after warming it up (I always warm my mascara in my cleavage 😊 while I’m applying my other makeup to make it glide on better). I originally had the clumping issue and the issue with not holding curl. However, I gave it another shot and treated it like I do my fallback, Epic, and it did AMAZING! I have fuller lashes already, so I need more length than anything; hence the reason I use Epic generally. Anywho, I put it in my cleavage to warm it up, curled them and it slid on like heels on ice!! Two coats is all I need! And not to bash Epic, but this stuff stayed in place much longer and left NO black marks behind… all day long! I was shocked and glad I took another chance on it. It may not be the greatest for everyone, but it does well for me when I do it like above. Best of luck ladies.
