Gather ’round. I’m about to tell you about my favorite makeup technique, that also happens to be one of the easiest. This is the easy smokey eye.
Now, I know makeup artists and influencers say ‘easy’ all the time.
“omg you guysss, this is sooo easy!”
“just pop on some lashes!”
But for real; you can do this and you’ll feel really good about yourself when you realize ya done nailed it.
I have it done this easy smokey eye so much, in so many places, so I’ll link all of those video resources at the end of the post.
What you need
- Soft pencil liner
- Stiff, domed brush
The best pencil liners for this
Ok, this is key. It has to be a pencil liner and it has to be soft.
Here are 2 that I love using on clients and myself alike.
Urban Decay Glide-On 24/7 Eye Pencil
Demolition is my favorite dark brown and I also adore Whiskey, Empire, Rockstar, Alkaline, Sabbath and Torch.
Pixi Endless Silky Eye Pen
MatteMulberry is my absolute favorite color for my cool tone green eyes.
If I had blue eyes, I’d choose MatteSienna or BronzeBeam.
If I had brown eyes, I’d choose DeepPlum or BlackBlue.
Choosing a Liner Color
Choose a pencil in black, brown or my favorite, a complementary color to your eye color for maximum impact.
I love a wine/berry situation for my green eyes, but here’s a quick guide for your own smokey eye:
|BLUE EYES||Think warm: rust, copper, bronze|
|GREEN EYES||Berry, wine, burgundy, plum|
|BROWN EYES||Navy, cobalt, purple|
|HAZEL EYES||Play up the color you want, choosing from above|
Best Brush for smokey eyes
You need a dense, domed brush. The bristles can’t be too long or pointed. The Essence brush below is literally called the Smokey Eyes Brush and it’s only $2.99, so grab that if you’re not sure if you have the right shape.
