Easy Smokey Eye, no really!

Gather ’round. I’m about to tell you about my favorite makeup technique, that also happens to be one of the easiest. This is the easy smokey eye.

Now, I know makeup artists and influencers say ‘easy’ all the time.

“omg you guysss, this is sooo easy!”
“just pop on some lashes!”

But for real; you can do this and you’ll feel really good about yourself when you realize ya done nailed it.

What you need

  • Soft pencil liner
  • Stiff, domed brush
  • Mascara

The best pencil liners for this

Ok, this is key. It has to be a pencil liner and it has to be soft.
Here are 2 that I love using on clients and myself alike.


Demolition is my favorite dark brown and I also adore Whiskey, Empire, Rockstar, Alkaline, Sabbath and Torch.


MatteMulberry is my absolute favorite color for my cool tone green eyes.
If I had blue eyes, I’d choose MatteSienna or BronzeBeam.
If I had brown eyes, I’d choose DeepPlum or BlackBlue.

Choosing a Liner Color

Choose a pencil in black, brown or my favorite, a complementary color to your eye color for maximum impact.

I love a wine/berry situation for my green eyes, but here’s a quick guide for your own smokey eye:

BLUE EYESThink warm: rust, copper, bronze
GREEN EYESBerry, wine, burgundy, plum
BROWN EYESNavy, cobalt, purple
HAZEL EYESPlay up the color you want, choosing from above

Best Brush for smokey eyes

You need a dense, domed brush. The bristles can’t be too long or pointed. The Essence brush below is literally called the and it’s only $2.99, so grab that if you’re not sure if you have the right shape.
