Galaxy Makeup
When the Des Moines Art Center asked me to create a makeup look inspired by this year’s Big Hair Ball theme, A Big Hair Blowout, I was planning this cosmic explosion before they even explained themselves! I’ve wanted to do galaxy makeup for a long time and this was the perfect opportunity. Inspired by black holes, alternate universes and of course one of my favorite Beastie Boys songs of all time, Intergalactic, this look was born.I made a timelapse video to show you how it came together but I want you to know, it’s not nearly as difficult or complex as it appears!
I love doing these types of avant garde looks because they are like a multi-layered abstract painting with no wrong or right. I focused on asymmetry, creating dimension and texture while making myself into the guardian of the galaxy. At this point, I am quite certain that the cause of my death will be “glitter lung.” I hope that if you’re attending this year’s Big Hair Ball, and there’s still time to grab tickets, that you’ll create something out of this world!
