#ShareBeauty
When you find the right path for yourself, like true love, your wedding dress, and the first house you buy, you really just know. I felt that feeling the very moment I started doing makeup on others professionally. Much like falling in love with my husband in college, it was as though all the lights on the circuit board lit up. It clicked. It made such sense to me. I have the extraordinary pleasure of being able to #ShareBeauty as a freelance makeup artist. Self and Sephora taught, I have found my place, and I can’t imagine where I’d be if I’d never given myself the freedom to pursue it or if I weren’t surrounded by people who support me.
Making Feelings
A makeup artist, hairstylist, nail artist-these professions are all so much more than their titles. Beyond great hair, makeup and nails, we get to be “feeling-creators”. I’m not selling you product or a service, but rather, a feeling. A feeling that you will carry with you all day long! A feeling that changes how you act and appear to others. That’s what the #ShareBeauty project is all about!
If I do my job right, and I listen to you, look at your natural beauty and choose the right products, I can make you truly feel something. In the beauty industry, you hold the power to give someone a new perspective. When someone feels good about themselves, it shows. It radiates into every other part of their life. After a great haircut, or getting your makeup done beautifully, the sun shines a little brighter, you are more cheerful to your partner and friends, kinder to the checkout person at the grocery store. Can you imagine what it would be like if everyone felt even a little bit better about themselves? And it isn’t all superficial either.
Just some of the beautiful faces I’ve had the honor of getting to know through makeup! Photos by Zach Boyden-Holmes for Juice Magazine and myself.
The Selfie Movement
While many find the selfie movement a tad annoying and overwhelming, I think at it’s core, the selfie is a very positive thing. Feeling good enough about how you look that you want to remember it is such a beautiful thing. We shouldn’t have to apologize for our self portraits. It’s hard enough to like yourself!
Today, a selfie is the #1 way I can tell if someone loves their makeup! If someone is truly feelin’ their look, out the phone comes so they can capture it and share it! I just love that. Women have texted me selfies later and it’s the cutest thing to me, that they’re still enjoying their makeup and the way it makes them feel. What I love about makeup artistry, almost as much as the makeup application itself, is meeting other women and connecting. If I do your makeup, we’re probably going to be friends from that day forward. I make new friends every week almost and it’s such an awesome perk.

07/26/2014 at 11:51 PMI love when I can read something like this. Sometimes I feel like I’m the only one who gets this excited about doing others makeup, not because I make them look good, but because I make them feel good too! Thanks for sharing!
