Skincare Review! Olay Dew Over Moisturizer
I’m a sucker for anything dewey. I love matte shadows and matte lips but when it comes to skin, I want to see glowing, healthy dewiness all the way. Given my schedule of sheer madness and the fact that sleep and I never get to spend as much quality time together as we should, I want skincare to lie for me. Tell the world I slept 8 hours and didn’t really stay up until 1 a.m. writing a blog post or editing a makeup tutorial. Go on skin–tell people that I had a sensible dinner, read a book for 30 minutes and hit the hay at 9:30 p.m. sharp.
My night owl lifestyle can be my little secret!
The Olay Fresh Effects {Dew Over} Hydrating Gel Moisturizer had me at Dew. Plus, it’s time to switch over to a lighter moisturizer for Spring/Summer so a gel moisturizer is perfect. I was so pleasantly surprised at how hydrating this was for a dry-skinned girl like myself. I was excited to maybe find a great new product for my oilier-skinned girls but lo and behold, it’s been good to even me! The formula is cooling and the best way I can describe the texture is like a gel soufflé. I’ve never really used a moisturizer this consistency and I was definitely skeptical since I’m usually thick-cream-girl all the way.
One thing I’ve noticed is that while it is not greasy, it does leave a slight tackiness on the skin when dry. However, there is a silver lining in this. I think it actually makes a great makeup primer by giving your products something to adhere to. Because {Dew Over} is actually formulated with silica powder, you’ll find your oiliness is better controlled throughout the day. I feel confident using this oil-free moisturizer on my easily-clogged pores without fear that the blackhead club will be recruiting new members. I can tell it has the soothing agent allantoin too because it has calmed down my mad, easily-irritated skin on more than one occasion.
When it comes to scent, I can definitely tell it has honeysuckle and white tea extract as the scent is fresh and lively. However, for some reason, it really smells like a hair product to me. Which is hilarious since I barely use hair products. While the scent is not overpowering, it just smells a bit too much like hair gel. If I could change anything, I would switch up the scent a bit and remove the unfortunate parabens. I’m kind of bummed to see those lurking in there.
Although not overly-glam, I actually love the durable chubby little packaging. I can’t tell you how many high end product jars have shattered or cracked when dropped on my tile bathroom floor. I like not having to worry about that. By the time I stumble into the bathroom at night, or in the morning, I can’t be trusted with small delicate objects.
So here’s where I think Dew Over really outdoes itself. Because it’s a gel formula, it has an instant tightening, firming effect on the skin. It gives skin a glow without any shimmer particles that tend to accentuate pores and texture. It makes skin look taut therefore light bounces off more evenly and your skin has that sure, I sleep 8 hours-eat right-exercise 5x a week glow, no sleep required!

05/01/2014 at 11:48 AMI love gel moisturizers for the warmer weather! I’m a little weary when I read that this leaves a slight tackiness though 🙁 Usually products that leave any level of tackiness doesn’t work well for me. Oh well 🙁
