Thrive Causemetics Liquid Lash Extensions Mascara Review
I am encouraged by what Thrive Causemetics is doing so I was excited to see them unveil their Liquid Lash Extensions Mascara. I knew I had to try it out and give you the scoop!
People seem to be as divided about mascara as they are about politics. There have been mascaras that I have absolutely hated that others profess their undying love to. It’s really a matter of your end goal and what you’re starting with. For example, I have a decent amount of lashes, so I don’t look for volume but length and separation. I am super adamant about separation, almost more than anything.
Read on to find out if the Thrive Causemetics Liquid Lash Extensions Mascara gave me all of that and more.PACKAGING
The first thing I noticed about the Liquid Lash Extensions Mascara was the hefty tube. It has a very substantial feeling in your hands, almost as though it’s made of metal? I like how it feels. It has a little more product in it than some mascaras so perhaps that is why. The brush is plastic and looked as though it would lend itself well to the feathery, separated lashes I’m after. Just a note: this brush style tends to work best on those with a decent amount of lashes but if you have short stubby lashes, sometimes they can dump too much product on them.
INGREDIENTS
Now, let’s take a closer look at the ingredient list. There are a few key things in the Liquid Lash Extensions Mascara that encourage lash health and growth like castor oil, panthenol and sodium hyaluronate. It also contains shea butter and an orchid stem cell complex meant to stimulate lash growth too. I was surprised to see it contained caranuba wax as it behaves like a tubing mascara in my opinion.
Tubing mascaras forego traditional waxes in place of a polymer. The Liquid Lash Extensions Mascara does contain a polymer as well so this appears to be a bit of a hybrid formula. Though Thrive Causemetics describes Liquid Lash Extensions as a fiber mascara, I cannot detect any visible in the formula. I would classify it as a tubing mascara, even if they do not, as it wears and removes like one. More on that to come.
RESULTS
Here is my eye one coat of the Liquid Lash Extensions applied. As you can see, it’s a nice, rich black, adds length and volume but with one problem. The separation ain’t happenin’. Several lashes are clumped together and that really bothered me. If you don’t have a ton of lashes to begin with, perhaps the lack of separation won’t bother you as much. It was the main reason I don’t love this mascara though.
WEAR
As far as wear time goes, I was very impressed. I didn’t experience any flaking or smudging and it even withstood some tears without a single streak. True to tubing mascara formulas, it slides off in pieces with just water. I honestly think that is my favorite thing about it. It’s so fun to stand in the shower and pull off clumps of mascara. If this mascara had better separation, I would like it a lot. I suspect that the short-bristled plastic brush is depositing too much product onto the lashes and the bristles aren’t long enough to effectively comb it through.
DO I RECOMMEND THRIVE CAUSEMETICS MASCARA?
No. I wanted to love this mascara but due to the overly-thick lashes it creates, I can’t say I do. I do like it and I will wear it on days that I don’t mind fatty lashes, but it won’t be a go-to fave necessarily.
If you have oily eyelids, watery eyes or just find that mascara runs and smudges on you easily, tubing mascaras like this one may be your friend.
Though it does contain some wax, it contains more polymers which form around each individual lash and unlike waxes and oils, don’t melt down. If you don’t mind a little clump n’ dump, the Thrive Causemetics Liquid Lash Extensions might be worth trying!

12/22/2017 at 12:29 PMI agree! I bought it recently and it did not impress me. I bought a waterproof covergirl mascara not long ago for less than $4 at TJ Maxx and it’s better than this stuff. The lengthening fibers don’t do anything.

07/16/2017 at 5:25 PMI haven’t received the mascara that I ordered weeks ago.

07/16/2017 at 5:26 PMThat’s a bummer. Was it back ordered when you ordered? Have you contacted them?

12/15/2017 at 7:45 PMDon’t expect much from it. Truly no t as good as L’Oréal or any over the counter brands.
Cancel it if you can, complete waste of money

03/31/2018 at 9:27 AMCould not agree more! Such a disappointment, LOREAL Telescopic is so much better and sooo much cheaper. Never going to leave LOREAL again!

07/08/2018 at 8:25 PMI was more than disappointed in the mascara. The over the counter mascaras such as l’Oreal and Maybelline much better product. They lengthen and thicken lashes. The thrive does not do either. Both were less than half the price of Thrive.

09/17/2017 at 3:15 PMThis mascara was really terrible and just smeared everywhere!
Miko
12/15/2017 at 7:47 PMIt was beyond bad. Junk!abd it took a long time to get. Fake reviews and ads from this company!
Liorah
09/27/2017 at 12:52 PMGot the eye liner in 2 colors. Hardly goes on, forget about long lasting. The pictures they show must be photoshopped! The liquid extensions mascara is so not! A really inferior product! Maybelline gives way better results. False advertising at its worst! Asked friends to try it. They all hated the product!
Ivy Boyd
09/27/2017 at 1:05 PMHi Liorah! Thanks for your comment! I don’t mind the eyeliner but I don’t reach for it too often either, now that I think about it. As for the mascara, I have to agree that I didn’t get anything near the results their photos show. It wasn’t one I’d recommend but hey, some people like that look? Thanks for reading!
Miko
12/15/2017 at 7:52 PMI absolutely agree with you. False ads , reviews and videos. If they truly believed in their products , they would respond in a different manner. We are the suckers….

03/14/2018 at 10:45 PMI was curious about that! every product has 5 stars! how is that possible? That was the reason I was hesitating to order!

09/28/2017 at 10:13 AMI am asian and the only way my lashes will remain curly after I use the curler is to use waterproof mascara. Is this waterproof? If not, wiill this work on my lashes? Will my lashes stay curly after its applied?
Ivy Boyd
10/03/2017 at 7:35 PMHi Loan! I know waterproof mascara does hold curl better than traditional. That being said, this is not described as a waterproof mascara. Most waterproof mascaras contain wax polymers and while this has caranuba wax, I can’t say whether that would be enough to hold curl.
KT
10/28/2017 at 3:31 PMI am also asian with eyelashes that straighten when I put on regular mascara. I’ve found that it happens with mascara with water as its first ingredient. It doesn’t matter it is high or low priced ones. Make sure you read the ingredients and avoid the ones that list water first.
Miko
12/15/2017 at 7:49 PMProduct sucks! Stay clear of this false advertising so called company

12/03/2017 at 2:08 PMHi. I too have fairly thick lashes and don’t like when mascara clumps them together. I’ve found that if I wipe the wand free of some (often most) of the product, I get a cleaner application. Thought I’d mention it in case you want to try it. It does feel wasteful, because I lose much of the mascara on the paper towel or tissue that I wipe the wand with, but my lashes always end up looking well separated and more natural when I do.
Kimery
03/02/2018 at 2:40 PMI’ve had the worse trouble with flaking. It flakes and falls on my face and then my lashes are bare. Maybe I need to wipe the wand each time. At this point I’m not very impressed.

12/18/2017 at 3:00 PMI bought this mascara and it is terrible. Very, very clumpy. I wonder if I can return it. Nothing like the description at all.
Margie
01/25/2018 at 11:09 AMI purchased it too, believing the reviews. So stupid of me. It clumped and flaked just awful.
I returned it. Hopefully, I will get a refund.
Kimery
03/02/2018 at 2:41 PMDid you return it? Did you get the refund? I found the same problems. I thought I was doing something wrong. Waste of a lot of money!
T. A. Johnson
12/22/2017 at 12:32 PMThank you for your blog! I read your thoughts before I received my mascara and I thought maybe I’d have a better experience. I tend to wipe off much of the mascara before applying it and I had hoped that would circumvent the lack of separation. Nope. This mascara was a huge disappointment. It didn’t lengthen any better than less expensive, store bought mascara and the lack of separation makes it look clumpy.
Stephanie Goddard
01/19/2018 at 6:30 PMThe long-wearing lipstick does not work. And to charge almost $30 (includes shipping costs) is really getting up there with a false advertising claim. This lipstick does NOT last all day (it will be gone the minute you eat or drink) and it does not moisturize your lips–in fact it’s very drying. You will be much better off purchasing the long-wearing lipstick from L’Oreal, Maybelline, Cover Girl, etc. and for a LOT less money.
I guess because their marketing does a thing with “every purchase gives one equal product to a needy woman…” and calling it “causemetics” is supposed to make us not care about the truth in their descriptions…but at $30? I’d rather donate to the charity of my choice.
Margie
01/25/2018 at 11:04 AMI purchased the mascara, which supposedly would not clump or flake. Guess what, it did!
I also purchased the eye liner, which supposedly would stay on all day. Guess what, it smeared off in around a half hour.
I returned both.
Ivy Boyd
01/26/2018 at 10:00 AMSuch a bummer, right?! Good intentions, poor execution. Thanks so much for reading and commenting!

01/25/2018 at 11:02 AMI am not sure how these causemetics get good reviews. I purchased the Liquid Lash Extensions Mascara and the eye liner.
The mascara clumped and flaked. Yes it did! The eye liner smeared off in about a half hour after applying. I tried them twice to be sure maybe somehow I was not applying correctly.
Both time it did this. I had black flecks on my face all day from the mascara. Since the eyeliner did not even stay on, I used something else I had.
I read all the raving reviews and thought, this stuff must be good (expensive too).
In may case, it was not — I hated it and I returned it.

04/07/2018 at 8:56 AMSame complaint-black flecks under eyes shortly after applying-eyelashes stuck together-returning!!! So disappointed-wanted to support cruelty-free, vegan makeup line. From comments here, all their products are bad!

01/31/2018 at 10:33 PMI rarely take the time to comment on products (am business owner and a bit frantic) but I LOVE this product. I really can’t believe that I can have near-extension look without extensions. Are you going to come out with a waterproof formula as well??
Rochel
01/31/2018 at 10:35 PMI can’t believe that this product would get bad reviews, seriously. I’ve tried Chanel, Lancome, Maybelline, and this goes way beyond. Also, the shipment arrived just a couple days after ordering. I will order it again and I hope the bad reviews don’t scare people away.

11/14/2018 at 4:50 PMI was very excited to order, but now I’ve stumbled upon this and I am nervous to order!!

02/02/2018 at 10:50 PMThis mascara was horrible. I really had high hopes for it but it didn’t show extra length and only clumped.
Sarah
02/04/2018 at 10:34 AMI cannot believe the terrific reviews for this brand. But now I understand the company’s tactic. They remove any negative feedback you leave and then block you from their Facebook page! I bought the mascara and eyeliner and was not impressed with either one. Complete lie about lengthening lashes and it clumps up for sure. The eyeliner melted off by end of day. The products are the complete opposite of what they say. Awful.
Ivy Boyd
02/05/2018 at 11:38 AMI really appreciate the charitable angle of Thrive so I was disappointed that this mascara wasn’t a win. The advertising images are misleading, I agree. That is good to know about the eyeliner. I have dry skin so I don’t experience as much smudging. Thank you for reading my post and taking the time to weigh in!

02/11/2018 at 11:57 AMHi Ivy!
I was googling reviews of the Thrive mascara & came upon your blog. I’ll DEFENETLY be reading from now, you’ve got a new fan in me!
I’m a mascara junkie as well, as I have light blonde lashes. I look like I have the flu without mascara.
Question for you, in your Thrive mascara review I noticed your bottom lashes in the FABULOUS close up photos. I have tried, tried & tried again to get mascara on my bottom lashes EXACTLY the way you have done in your photos. I’m very pale & I would love the extra definition. Do you have any secrets to applying mascara on bottom lashes??! I end up with a kewpie doll, clumpy lash look with the side benefit of smearing under my eye. 😡. I’ve tried the trick of holding something, like a business card between my bottom lashes & under eye. I still get a clumpy, not natural looking MESS. Any ideas are greatly appreciated! Sorry for the CRAZY long comment. 😧

02/23/2018 at 9:57 PMI’ve tried this mascara, which is very costly PLUS shipping and it was no different that the maybelline waterproof mascara I’ve been using for years. Did not work for me and I’m out the money.

I clicked at the bottom were it says:
“Click here to see some of the mascaras that are tried-and-true for me.”
But it only takes me to Shop Ulta VIB Sale and nothing about your tried-and-true mascara finds.
I am interested in seeing what mascaras you recommend.
Thank you, 😊

03/27/2018 at 12:25 PMI’ve found that Mary Kay mascara works best. It covers well, washes off with water or make-up removal pads, and does not smear or melt under my eyes when I have on makeup base. I also use it on my eyebrows after I put it on my lashes.
Tami
04/05/2018 at 7:31 AMI have very, very thin, almost non-existent eye lashes, and I love this product! It is more expensive than than I’d like to spend (I always buy drug store cosmetics), but I feel the price is well worth it, and I am money conscious. I am ordering my 2nd tube today. It doesn’t smear, like someone said, it doesn’t rub off or end up underneath your eyes. It really is a very good product and makes my lashes look much thicker and longer.
Kelly
06/19/2018 at 9:46 PMI have this mascara and I honestly do love the way it stays on my eye without smudging under neath my eye. My issue and was wondering if there’s anyone else out their with this experience. After using the mascara for a few weeks I noticed both my eye sockets were aching and my eyes were tremendously sore (burning). I stopped using the mascara and then recently went back to it and the same thing happened again. My thoughts obviously are it’s something in the mascara but I don’t know what.
Just wondering am I the only one with this experience? Thanks for your input in advance.

09/02/2018 at 11:03 AMI seem to be allergic to the mascara or Cc Cream. I just bought these products and I now have a sunburn like rash under my eyes and under my eyes are very swollen. I first thought it was the CC cream but if that was the issue wouldn’t my entire face be reacting to the product? So now I think it is the mascara. My eyes have been swollen for 2 days and I look like I have been crying. This is horrible.
Andrea DeValkenaere
09/06/2018 at 7:49 PMOmg-I have had this same issue. This is the 2nd time it’s happened. Doesn’t happen everytime I wear it (which is weird) but it is so painful. My eyes are really puffy and end up with crusty dry skin all around my eyelids to the corners of my eyes as well.

11/12/2018 at 7:37 AMI have the EXACT SAME PROBLEM! It hurts so bad! – At first I didn’t put it together with the mascara because like you it didn’t happen every time I wore it. However, I just figured it out. I happened to rub my eyes with the mascara on. When it came into contact with my skin I had a rash (dry itchy burn feeling rash) below my eyes and on my eye lids again. I am trying to figure out what ingredient is causing this problem. If you find out please let me know.

07/04/2018 at 8:46 PMNOT WORTH IT !!!! It did NOT do anything different from other mascara. Drug Store bought is much better. I am so disappointed and yet it was very pricey. It could be organic, who knows !!! And I’ve used mascara for decades, this is not even close to other mascara.
Lauren
07/05/2018 at 2:50 PMI ordered this mascara with high hopes. I knew right away that I’ve never had good results with this type of brush. (I didn’t notice the type before buying😅) so as usual, I couldn’t get the feathered look I can achieve with the other type of brush applicator. My eyelashes are really short and they just look clumpy with this. I’m going to clean and use an old applicator and hope it goes on better with that one!

07/09/2018 at 5:59 PMI bought the mascara recently and it worked fine – there was a small tiny clumping but was able to brush it out. My lashes were longer than my usual mascara (Too Faced brand) about the same price as this Thrive. I didn’t check to see if this was waterproof and found out it wasn’t when I went swimming… it clumped up in pieces and was all over my face when I got out. My husband and my niece was looking at me like “What happened?” So in the future, if you are going to go in the water or go on water rides, make sure you’re not wearing this brand.

08/10/2018 at 12:21 PMI ordered this. Very disappointed inproduct. If you have curled up eyeslashes, I suppose it would be ok but product is too wet and makes eyelashes straight. Bummed. Lots of $$ wasted for me

08/21/2018 at 8:18 PMI’m really surprised to see any negative comments on here, at all. I’m 51 and have been wearing cosmetics regularly since I was approximately 13 years old and was honestly amazed by this product!
I have tried a multitude of both drug store and high end beauty products but this is by far the best mascara that I have personally used.
I used it for the first time the other evening while at the casino, with my husband and son, and received compliments from early in the evening until early in the morning. Usually by then everything has worn off.
This is now the only mascara for me!!!!

09/27/2018 at 10:44 PMI actually love this mascara! I wipe off excess on a paper towel prior to applying and my lashes look gorgeous. I also think the mascara is helping with growth/length.

10/16/2018 at 4:05 PMI have been using this for about a week and a half and about 5 days ago I woke up with a rash on the base of my eyelashes on my right eye and the next morning my left eye was irritated too. I didn’t think much of it but my eyes have been irritated for 5 days now, so this morning I thought what have I changed in my routine to which I could have had an adverse reaction too……The Mascara, everything else has been the same so I guess something in the ingredients has irritated my eyes 🙁 ….I’m glad it works for some people though.
SST
01/18/2020 at 10:40 PMI have serious eye irritation from this mascara as well. I originally thought my dogs fur was causing my eyes to water profusely or maybe my eyeshadow got in my eyes. So I stopped the mascara and eyeshadows and my eyes cleared up after about a week. Tonight I used this mascara and voila, my eyes watered and gunked up…removed it and had to rinse eyes out totally and still clouded up….that’s when I decided to see if anyone else has had issues….totally bummed 🙁
Ivy Boyd
01/21/2020 at 12:06 PMWhat a bummer! I’m not sure what ingredient is irritating you but it does contain several flower extracts as well as lichen extract, a moss that can definitely cause allergic reactions. Maybe something to look into? Thanks for reading my post!
GG
03/15/2023 at 8:46 AMThanks for that info. I have the same problem when wearing it. I think as I’ve aged my eyes are more sensitive. I wanted to like this, but when I’ve worn it, my eyes itch and water. I have also had friends ask if I’ve been crying b/c my eyes look red and irritated.
Mandi Jacobs
04/11/2022 at 11:42 AMSame things happened to me. I loved the mascara but after a few days my eyes were on fire and watered profusely. Sadly, I bought a 2 pack so I need to return the one I did not use and pay a $5 fee. I am happy it works for some people, but ouch NOT for me!

12/31/2018 at 11:33 AMI had a really bad reaction to this mascara too. Looks great and I tried and tried to use it but the itching drove me crazy. It made my eyes swell and turn very red. It took days after I took it off for my eyes to return to normal. Had to throw it out.

03/15/2019 at 12:16 AMI didn’t like it. Clumpy, and I found it hard to get off. My eyes felt irritated too. I prefer Tarte’s mascara.

11/09/2019 at 5:39 PMWorked well for me after warming it up (I always warm my mascara in my cleavage 😊 while I’m applying my other makeup to make it glide on better). I originally had the clumping issue and the issue with not holding curl. However, I gave it another shot and treated it like I do my fallback, Epic, and it did AMAZING! I have fuller lashes already, so I need more length than anything; hence the reason I use Epic generally. Anywho, I put it in my cleavage to warm it up, curled them and it slid on like heels on ice!! Two coats is all I need! And not to bash Epic, but this stuff stayed in place much longer and left NO black marks behind… all day long! I was shocked and glad I took another chance on it. It may not be the greatest for everyone, but it does well for me when I do it like above. Best of luck ladies.

03/15/2021 at 7:39 AMDO NOT use the mascara 😭 Upon arrival I immediately opened and used in excitement showing off my long thick lashes only to wash my face that evening to notice my lashes were much shorter…the mascara actually BURNT my eyelashes off. I am not walking around with little to no eyelashes praying they grow back.
