How to organize beauty products with Lovelyloot
Whenever I hear the word apps, I can’t help but think of Tom Haverford from Parks and Rec, asking Leslie if he can get apps n’ zerts. Appetizers and desserts really are some of the finer things in life and I think smartphone apps could be lumped in there too. I basically run on apps. I’m not Type A by any definition of the word, so without apps to organize, my entire life would basically be a dumpster fire.
If there is one area of my life that requires a large amount of organization, it’s my ever-growing beauty and skincare collection. As a beauty blogger and working makeup artist, the amount of products I accumulate on a weekly basis is overwhelming, bordering on gross. If there were ever a time for a #ThirdWorldProblems, it is this paragraph.
I’ve tried using spreadsheets to account for what I have, but spreadsheets aren’t very pretty and I can only update them on my laptop. That doesn’t work when I’m laying on our oversized bean bag with only my iPhone in hand. I could use the Notes app to make a written list, but I’m a hardcore visual person and I really need to see it all, ya know?
Something I’ve recently found to help my nightmare self out is the beauty app, Lovelyloot. Lovelyloot is a way to visually account for all of the items in your personal collection. They describe themselves as Evernote meets Pinterest, allowing you to make lists of what’s in your collection, what you want to try, what products a friend recommended to you, etc. You don’t have to be a beauty blogger or makeup artist to utilize it either.
How did I discover this? I had the pleasure of meeting the founder, Ida while she was in town for her sister’s wedding. I was doing her sister’s wedding makeup and once Ida and I got to chatting, we realized we had to continue the conversation!
FOR THE COMPULSIVE BEAUTY BUYER
Ok, so say you’re like a lot of my clients, who have impressive product stashes but often buy the same colors over and over, forgetting what they already own, enter Lovelyloot. You can easily access a list of products you own while browsing the aisle of Sephora or Ulta. I like that it’s super easy and fast to add products, without having to add a ton of details. If you can search, you can add products. I especially like that you can add notes about products so that you can log if you like it, had any reactions to it, etc.
FOR CLUELESS GIFT GIVERS
This time of year, another great way to utilize the app is to create a wish list that can be shared with others, via email, text or social media. A-hem clueless spouses and significant others! Whoever views your list can click on the products and purchase them right then and there. Merry Christmas to you!
AS A BEAUTY BLOGGER
As a beauty blogger, by creating a list in Lovelyloot called PR, I can organize what I’ve been sent. I utilize the notes area to put key points I want to address in a blog post or video review. I can also note if I’ve Instagrammed, snapped or tweeted about it as well as who sent me the product, if I have a giveaway planned, etc. It’s such a great way for me to take account of everything I have and make sure I’m keeping up on things. Another way I’ve been using Lovelyloot as a beauty bloggers is by creating a list of products on my radar, things I want to try. Check it out here.
AS A MAKEUP ARTIST
In my makeup artistry business, I like utilizing Lovelyloot to keep track of the items in my kit, as a way of taking inventory but also to create custom product lists for clients from consultations or even bridal trials. I can then share these lists with my clients or access my bridal trial notes on the wedding day to see what products we used at a glance.
FOR SUBSCRIPTION BOX LOVERS
Lovelyloot would be a great way to track samples you receive from either Sephora or subscription services like Ipsy. You can add them to a list you create called December Ipsy, for example, and then write in the notes if you liked them. If you dig a product, you can view them online and repurchase quickly and easily. Bada bing, bada boom.
FOR SKINCARE OBSESSED
If you’re trying out a new skincare routine, create a list in Lovelyloot titled Current Skincare Routine. Track all of the products you’re using, noting how many times per week in the notes section as well as any improvements or reactions you observe.
If you have a lovely loot of your own and need to organize the chaos before you go insane, download this free app and start organizing that beautiful mess of yours, friend! It’s available now on iOS and coming soon on Android. Thanks for reading and happy organizing!
