Urban Decay Naked Skin Foundation Review

I wanted to start this “worth the hype” series to discuss products that get a lot of buzz and make you wonder, “is it really that great?”

The first in this series is Urban Decay’s new foundation debut, Naked Skin. It comes in 18 shades, which is generous for most foundation lines.
Urban Decay Naked Skin promises to “blur” imperfections for a luminous, demi-matte finish that feels invisible but looks professionally retouched.
It is oil-free, paraben-free, fragrance-free and vegan. Naked Skin contains some extra ingredients for anti-aging, smoothing and hydrating as well as light-diffusing spheres for luminosity and a “professionally-retouched” look.

worthhypeThe shades come in both rosy and yellow undertones, with those ending in “0” being warm (yellow/olive undertones and those ending in “5” being cool (rosy/neutral undertones).
The bottle is 1 fl. oz., uses a pump and retails for $40 online, at Sephora or ULTA stores.

Onto the good stuff!
Here is what I found most impressive about Naked Skin Foundation:

  • Very buildable and pigmented
  • Easy to blend, great consistency
  • Photographs beautifully. Truly does look airbrushed in photos when applied with a flat-top kabuki-style brush.
  • Great shade range. For true yellow tones like me, 4.0 was a great match for my summer skin, probably 2.0 or 3.0 for winter.
  • Price ($40) is on par with many high-end foundations.
  • No fragrances or parabens and cruelty-free!

I did not appreciate the power of Naked Skin foundation until I saw the above photo of myself. This photo has not been retouched or photoshopped in any way. The only “special effects” going on are some contouring I was practicing (you can see the darker streak down the side of my nose, lighter streak down the center).
I took several photos of this look for a blog post and every photo had an airbrushed quality to it. I have large pores, especially on my cheeks, and a prominent smile line and both areas were softened quite a bit.
I feel that Naked Skin truly delivers on the “light-diffusing particles” part and creates a luminous, better-than-real-life look to your skin.
