Best Cream Contour Products
“It was all a dream, I used to read Word Up Magazine, when I contour, sometimes I use a cream!”
I’m preeetty sure that’s how the Notorious B.I.G. song goes.
The contouring craze definitely isn’t going anywhere, anytime soon! As we become more interested in the why’s, how’s and what’s of contouring, creams inevitably enter the conversation. Often used for their seamless ability to melt into the skin, with undetectable textures, creams are incorporated for TV and film, print and now, everyday life!
You can do cream contouring only, cream and powder together, just powder-whatever your pleasure. In just the past 2 years, so many more products have burst onto the market to contour with and creams are a scene all their own. Here are some of your best bets if you want to be a contour cream queen!
1. Cover FX Contour Kit, $48 Makeup artists have been using Cover FX’s high-coverage cream foundations to contour for years so it’s super smart of them to release these contour palettes! The Cover FX formula is some of the most opaque but still blendable and comes in a very impressive array of shades.
2. NYX Cosmetics 3C Conceal Correct Contour Palette, $11.99 When I saw these palettes at Ulta, I immediately thought of the MAC Pro Conceal and Correct Palettes. These creamy formulas are opaque and blendable and the shadow colors in the lightest palette are particularly impressive. This is an excellent $12 dupe for the $40 MAC palette!
3. Smashbox Step-By-Step Contour Stick Trio, $45 For ultimate contouring precision, these sticks are so smart! You simply sketch exactly where you want to place your highlight and contour and blend out with a synthetic brush or fingers. For the nose, I really like this delivery method! YouTube guru Jaclyn Hill recently mentioned them here. I agree with her-the highlight and contour stick will be most useful, but the bronze stick I wouldn’t reach for as much.
4. Stila Sculpt & Shade Custom Contour Duo, $40 This is a brand new product from Stila and I have nothing by high hopes for it. Stila’s Convertible Color cream blushes are some of my absolute favorites. These duos are all matte, come in 3 shade selections and are long-wearing, waterproof formulas. Go Stila, get your contour game on.
5. RCMA Highlight and Contouring Palette, $30 I absolutely adore the RCMA cream foundation palettes. The VK #11 palette has highlight and contour shades that are some of the most accurate in tone and formula so I love that they’ve condensed into a highlight and contouring palette. The S-1 shade is the perfect ashy taupe and I love that you have the choice of both a yellow highlight and a more pink-based one.
6. BECCA Lowlight/Highlight Perfecting Palette, $42 The BECCA Lowlight Sculpting Perfector has been available solo for awhile and is an excellent, greige/brown cream contour. I love that BECCA has since paired it with another item they’re killing the market with-a cream highlighter! The highlight is a universally-flattering champagne, with just a hint of rose gold to it.

01/30/2015 at 7:56 PMWhen I worked at Sephora, we’d use the CoverFX cream foundations to contour so I think it’s so smart of them to palette-ize it! And girl, I’m with you on the price of those Smashbox sticks! You’d be afraid to sharpen them away!
