BoxyCharm Review

BoxyCharm is a subscription service that sends you 4-5 full-size beauty products for $21 a month. They offer what I would describe as mid-range or perhaps a bit lesser-known brands.

I received the December box, themed “Jingle Belles” and valued at over $121, and I was pretty impressed, albeit a few misses. Here’s what I thought of the items in my box! View video review:

Lina Lashes
These 100% real mink lashes felt softer and more feathery than any other false lash I’ve tried. The bad news is that they looked more ridiculous on than any other false lash I’ve tried. I’m not into extreme lashes and these looked positively mental on me. They are huge so anyone will need to trim them down significantly prior to application. I have large eyes and rarely, if ever, need to trim lashes, but these are BIG! The good news is that I think you could almost get 2 lashes out of one strip!

Eva NYC Hold Me Tight Hairpspray
This smells really nice! I haven’t tried it out yet but I look forward to it because of the pleasant scent!

Be a Bombshell Cosmetics Lip Crayon in ‘Some Beach’
This has a slight shimmer and the color is very summery. I love anything coral/peach/melon and I think it looks really flattering on yellow skintones. I am wearing it here.

Mistura Retractable Beauty Brush
This is a synthetic brush that smells very much like plastic. The scent bothered me. The shape looked similar to Sephora’s #55 Pro Airbrush Foundation Brush so I tried applying liquid foundation with it. It didn’t work so awesome though so I’d stick to powder blushes and face powders. I like that it’s retractable and I would keep it in my purse for emergency powder touch-ups.

Coastal Scents Revealed Palette
This was, by far, the most exciting, whoa item in this BoxyCharm! This is a full-size palette with 20 colors that are nearly-identical dupes for the Urban Decay Naked 1 and Naked 2 palettes. If you can’t justify spending $55 on one of those right now, why not get both ranges of colors for less than half of the price?! The info card in the BoxyCharm lists this at a $40 value, but it’s never $40. It’s always $20 or less as Coastal Scents has sales all the time. Don’t pay more than $20 for it! I am probably going to get the Revealed 2 Palette as well now, seeing as the quality is great and I don’t own the Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette yet! See a look tutorial and more thoughts on the Revealed palette here.

Overall Thoughts
I love that BoxyCharm offers all full-size products. I’m not sure if the Coastal Scents Revealed Palette was a special holiday item, but if it’s any indication of the types of BoxyCharm offerings, that’s super exciting. BoxyCharm certainly introduced me to new brands I’d not yet experienced and that’s something I always enjoy. I do think the price point could be a few dollars lower, when comparing to Glossybox, also at $21 a month, but that offers luxury brands.

[…] Maybe more?! I know you’ve likely heard of the usual suspects like Birchbox, Ipsy, Glossybox, Boxycharm, etc. I’ve reviewed several myself and have enjoyed exploring their options. Today, I want to […]
