Concert Eye Look: Gold Lightning
I did this look for a concert I attended for one of my favorite bands, Matt & Kim. They are one of the most positive, enthusiastic, energetic and talented duos I’ve ever seen. I want to be Kim when I grow up.
That, or I want Jake and I to learn how to play the drums and keyboard and start a band.
He said this isn’t likely.
I highly recommend you check Matt & Kim on their Lightning tour. Their new album is fantastic so please do me, and yourself, a big favor and have a listen!
Anyways, I wore a T-shirt under a blazer with a aqua/mint and gold tiger print on it. The shirt could best be described by my brother as: “it looks like you lost a bet,” or by my husband as “WWE wrestler.”
So there’s that 🙂 But it has a tiger on it and I like the colors. They inspired this look after all.
1.) Pat an aqua shadow like mark’s Pool all over lid with a damp, flat shadow brush. This shadow is part of a palette that is no longer for sale unfortunately but the South Pacific Duo Eyeshadow from NARS would work nicely–probably better. You could also try Loreal’s HiP Studio Secrets Bright Shadow Duo in Showy.
Less pigmented shadows can be made more vivid when applied wet. I do it often with my cheaper shadows.
Use a small shadow brush to apply some of the aqua on the lower lid, gradually reducing the amount of shadow as you get closer to the tear duct.
*Tip: you will need to continue to wet your brush to keep the shadow’s pigment bright. I use eye drops to do this. I keep some in my makeup desk for this.
Black/charcoal shadows next to bright colors can look drag-queen if not blended well. A black/gray can also muddy a bright color though so keep it restricted to one area like the crease or outer third of the eye.
3.) Draw a medium-thick cat eye with a black liquid liner liner like mark’s On the Edge in Cleo.
5.) I finished the look with a pale, matte pink lip cream from NYX. Absolutely love these Soft Matte Lip Creams and will do a post on them in the future. Very cool texture and finish. I am wearing the color Istanbul.
