DIY: Translucent Powder
I tried another little DIY beauty project out. I found this one on this girl’s great blog via Pinterest.
I was out of my translucent powder so it was the perfect time to give this a try.
Keep in mind-I have not used Bare Minerals or Bare Escentuals cosmetics in the past. I tried mineral makeup once and it made my skin itch really bad. I also can’t get by with powder foundations because my skin is just a bit too scary for that light of coverage. But I digress…
You will need just 3 things:
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1/2 tsp baby powder (I’m using cucumber melon because it smells nice)
- An empty powder sifter (I got one at Sephora or you could use an empty loose powder container as I am here)
*Optional: original blog post says add cocoa powder for extra color. I thought about cinnamon perhaps if you have warm toned skin? The blogger has beautiful medium-toned skin so I knew if it didn’t look chalky on her, it likely wouldn’t on me (currently a pale whale.)
Add cornstarch and baby powder to powder sifter. Close lid and shake ingredients thoroughly.
Apply with large fluffy powder brush or puff.
I like using EcoTools large powder brush to apply.
I find this DIY powder to be very effective at keeping shine at bay. Bear in mind, I do not have very oily skin. This sets and mattifies my foundation nicely and stands up to store-bought loose powders and mineral veils.
I love how economical this is because I like to be liberal with loose powder, using it to sweep away shadow fallout, tone down bright blush, etc.
Hopefully this works just as well for you and saves you some money too!
